Day 115: Use AI to enhance your digital organization skills.

Start with one cluttered folder, not your entire digital life: export or copy a list of 15 to 30 filenames, remove anything confidential, and tell the AI what each file is for. First, ask it to propose no more than five categories and a consistent filename pattern that includes the project, document type, and date when useful. Paste-ready prompt: “Review this sanitized filename list, group the files into no more than five practical folders, propose a consistent naming pattern, flag any file whose purpose is unclear, and return a table with current name, suggested folder, suggested name, and reason; do not assume file contents that are not shown.” Before changing anything, review the table, correct bad assumptions, and test the pattern on three copied files so the originals remain recoverable.

Move only the files you verified, save the approved naming rule in a short note, and repeat the same process on one folder each week. Keep sensitive filenames and file contents out of public AI tools unless your organization has approved them. The result is a small, reviewable cleanup system you can reuse instead of a risky one-click reorganization. Tomorrow, we’ll explore another practical way to use AI.
